The Day I went to Chicago Part 2

ok, so I'm getting really bad with this blogging thing. Is it cause I actually have a life? sadly no. Blogging just seems to get in the way of my doing of nothing.

so, Chicago Day 2. We hit up a bunch of landmarks that we missed out on the first day. We went to the Married With Children fountain, the Picasso sculpture, and of course, back to the Bean!!! Have I mentioned how awesome that thing is?

After the little walking tour, we headed out to the Chicago Outlet, but before that, we make a little sidestop at White Castle for lunch. I've always wanted to try white castle burgers, but just never got around to going, so this seemed like the perfect oppurtunity. It wasn't until we got to white castle that we realized that we probaby should have went to the south chicago white castle and not the west chicago one. I've been told that there's a part of Chicago that you don't want to be in, and I'm pretty sure West Chicago is that place. It was ghetto ghetto, we were the only non-black folk around. Every single person we passed by stared at us, as it was apparent that we stood out like a sore thumb!

We pull into white castle, and I swear to God, that every person in White Castle stared at us while we were in the car. Luckily for us, they had a drive through, cause there was no way we were going to go in. We wound up ordering 30 burgers for Kish, Farooq, and me, and a chicken burger for Umu. I have to say, I can see how people can crave for a white castle burger. It's not exactly quality, but it's not that bad.

After getting our burgers, we haul ass out of west chicago and make our way to the mall. 4 hours later, and about $250 in the hole, and we were off back home for dinner and another night out on the town.

We took a taxi over to the bar area, and went to a pub that the taxi driver recommended. I had this scallop and shrimp pasta thing, and it was great. There was more scallop then pasta! just the way I like it.

We couldn't decide what bar to hit up, so we just went bar hopping and found the most interesting places. One place had this live jazz/blues music, one place seemed kinda trendy with a lot of 30 year olds, one place had ALOT of 30 year olds and a dance floor, one place had live karaoke, and the place we finally decided on had a mixed crowd, a dance floor, and hip hop music! After hearing the hip-hop music, we knew that this would be the place we'd end up. Anyways, we danced for hours and I failed horribly as a wingman, cause well, Jenn would kill me if I did anything. The best song of the night "It's time for the perculator!" The strangest and oddest song and beat, but hilarious nonetheless.

Anyways, that was more or less all that we did in Chiacago. the next day, we just made our way back to Toronto, which was rather uneventful.

So, that was my Chicago weekend. Next post will be pictures, and then for the post after that, I'm going to have something special for you all (you all being my mom and Daniella).

The Day I went to Chicago Part 1

So I have some free time before I start work, so I decided to hop in a car with some friends and take a roadtrip to Chicago to visit Kishen.

Farooq, Umair, and I left for Chicago Thursday night, and made pretty decent time until we got caught going 110 mph by a cop in michigan. So, we had to drive in at the speed limit the rest of the way, and wound up getting to Kish's place around 4 in the morning EST, 3 AM Central.

A quick sleep, and we were up to explore the city. We decided to emplore the city, first passing through millenium park. Now, I can't say much about the outskirts of chicago, but as far as the downtown core goes, it's one of the nicest cities I've seen in North America. The architecture and art is just amazing. Millenium Park is home to Jay Pritzker Pavilion, The BP Bridge, and of course the giant shiny bean, which in all honesty, is one of the coolest things I've ever seen in my life. I'll post up some pics soon, but until then you can check out the website at http://www.millenniumpark.org/.

After going through millenium park, we made our way through the city to the Sears Tower where Kishen works. Saw it, realized it was just a building, and went to grab some lunch at a mexican grill place called qdoba. Now eating big ass burritos, after 5 hours of sleep, and combine it with the cold windy weather of chicago, and a nap was long overdue.

After a good 2 hour nap, we woke up and planned our night. We decided that we'd go grab some deep dish pizza, hit up a jazz club, and then make our way over to a nightclub. around 5, I turned on and off one of the kitchen lights, and somehow managed to blow a fuse and expose some faulty wiring in kishen's apartment. We talked to maintenace after Kish came home, but there was nothing to be done until Sunday morning when the electrician was back in the building.

After hooking up all some lamps into the 2 sockets that worked, we got ready and went to Uno's for some deep dish. It was a pretty good pizza, not nearly as greasy as I though it'd be, which probably made it that much better. Unfortunately it takes 45 minutes to cook, and probably another 30 minutes to eat, so by the time we got out fo there, we had to forgo the jazz club.

We took a taxi to a club called crobar, and found out that it was a house night, so we went to Zentra instead and were disappiointed that it was all house as well. But eventually they started to play hip hop, but even still, the DJ was crap, and we found it hard to get into the right type of mindset. So, we stayed until about 2:30 and then booked home.

And with that, day 1 in chiago was over.

The Day I Got Stuck at Yorkdale for 6 Hours

I brought my car back to the dealership today to get the lower ball joints repaired. They told me they would call me when it was done, so I had the courtesy shuttle take me to Yorkdale Mall where I figured I could chill for a bit. If you remember, the last time I brought my car in for a inspection it took 4 hours for a 1 hour inspection. So, this time around, I was prepared for the same incompetence as last time.

Hanging out in a mall can be a rather interesting study on human behaviour. I sat down on one of those chairs in the middle of the mall, and just took in the scene around me. First, I noticed that all the old guys are the ones who sit in those chairs in the middle of the mall, and that there was a good chance I was occupying a chair that some old guy probably wanted. I was trying to figure out why they were at the mall, but when their wives showed up an hour later to pick them up, it all made sense. I can't believe that even at their age, they have to take their wives to the mall.

I was going to mention things about consumerism and how people are a slave to shopping, but the moment has passed, and I'm going to move onto my next blog.
