The Day I Tried to Win a 40'' TV

Are people still coming to this page? aside from my mom?

I've had a crazy few weeks at work. i've been working long hours, and weekends again. I've told my boss that I'm studying for the CFA now, and that I'm looking for a securities related job after my contracts done. In lue of this, he's offered to extend my contract for a few months until I find a job. I'm not totally sure I want to extend it though. The job's a bitch, the pay is shit, and the commute sucks too. On the plus side, it's still income, and it'll be easier to find a job if I have a job already. Another con though, is that it usually keeps me so busy that I don't have time to look for another job.

One thing that also plays a factor are my upcoming trips. I've booked my week in Cuba, and I'm planning on going to Asia for a month. Apparently, according to my boss, this causes a problem, because as a contract worker who's only been there for 6 months, I'm not entitled to that much vacation. Of course, my contract ends in November, so I didn't see why taking a month off in December should be a problem. I figured they could just renew the contract in January. But then apparently something about the optics of it and how it would look, blah blah blah. So, you know what he suggested? He suggested I cancel my trip to Cuba and eat the cost. meaning that I just take the $1000 hit and keep working because "it'll be better for me in the long run, and easier to find a job by having a job". In all honesty, I don't think I'll have that much of a problem finding a job, and even if it is harder, it's not impossible. So, I told him that I'm going to go on my trip, and that I guess I'll just have to end my contract on the 22nd. Then he casme back and said that they could extend my contract for 3 more weeks, until mid-december, at which point I'll go to asia, and when I come back, there may or may not be a contract for me. So, if I don't find a job before then, and I can get a ticket that works for that date, then I guess I'll stick around. As much as the job kills me, I'm hoping it will pay dividends.

Aside from work, I've been entering the annual pepsi contest. It's a little different this year. They're giving away a bunch of different prizes, and the only one I'm interested in is the 40'' LCD tv. It'll be hard though, because it's only drawn once a day, and everyone pretty much enters that draw. but after winning the previous two years, I can't help but keep playing until I win...if I win. So, wish me luck.

And Now, for the one liners:

Movies I want to watch in theatres right now: The Prestige, Running with Scissors, Little Children, and Borat.

I've lost another pound. My original goal was to be 175, but now, I've dropped to 167.

Whoa, I just saw an Olivieri commercial on tv. I don't think I've ever saw an olivieri pasta commercial before.

I tried my max bench, and it's 175 pounds. What does this mean? This means, that if I were to collapse on top of me, I can push myself off....

I vaguely remember saying I'd post pictures up...Don't know when that's going to happen...

The Day I Finished My CSC

So, I finally got around to writing the second exam for the CSC. I didn't study nearly as much as the first one, but I did good enough to pass. In all honesty, the CSC is a cake walk. Now comes the hard one. The CFA. I wish I had finished the CSC earlier. That way I could have written the Level 1 CFA exam in December. As it stands, I'm going to wait until next June to write Level 1.

Anyone see Harper cheer during Sundin's goal last night? Wasn't that great? He alienated the capital, and might pay for it someday.

Karson asked me about my career goals a couple of days ago. I told him that I decided to do my CFA and that I'd pursue a career in investment securities. It was then he told me that they didn't post the Financial Analyst position yet, and that if I wanted to extend my contract until I found a new job, that they'd work it out. I might take him up on it, if I have nothing else to do, and if I get a raise. I don't know if I'd do it at my current salary.

So, I was able to get any week off I want in November, so I can go to Cuba with the Malton crew, but do I want to? I mean, I don't know if I can afford it. I need that money! Do I really need more lounging? And I'll be going to Asia in December, so money's going to be flying out of my account soon.

I forgot. The reason I wanted to post something was cause it seems that every morning while I listen to the radio on the way to work, I hear about some crazy mofo shooting up a school, killing their siblings, or setting girls on fire, and so on. What the hell is wrong with kids nowadays? When I was in school, you might get some racist remarks, but you didn't have to worry about some nut shooting up the school, and shit. Honestly, kids nowadays have gone insane. I'm honestly glad I'm not in HS anymore.

September Part 5: The Big 2-5

So, of course, with September we have my birthday. It went by somewhat uneventfully this year. On my actual birthday, my boss kept me in the office after hours so that I could finish some work before I took 2 days off to study. Then on the Saturday I went out with some friends to dinner, and a bit of dancing which is always fun. And I guess...that's really all there is to say about that....

September Part 4: The Day the Film Festival Ended

I'm a little behind with the blogging, but no September Blog would be complete without a Film Festival recap. unlike the past few years, I had to work during the 10 days of the film festival, so, I didn't have alot of time to volunteer and just as little time to watch films.

To break it down, I could only watch films on the weekends, so I watched 3 films on the 9th, 3 on the 10th, 1 on the 15th, and 4 on the 16th. Not too bad, but not nearly enough. The films I liked were: Paris Je t'aime, The Last King of Scotland, Catch a Fire, Snow Cake, and Exiled. Ok-decent films: Never Say Goodbye, The Art of Crying, The Banquet. Films that I would probably never watch again: All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, Rain Dogs. and Lastly, I watched a Documentary called the White Planet, which I really don't have any opinion about. I'd go into more detail about what I liked or disliked about the films, but I don't want to ruin anything, and more importantly, I'm just too lazy. if you want to know anything about it, just ask me, or post a comment requesting it if you really want to know.

So, Finally when the film festival was done, we had our annual Volunteer Wrap -up party, which was sub-par this year on many levels. The main thing that I didn't like was having it on a Sunday. Usually it's on the last day of the festival on Saturday. Having it on Sunday, means that I had to leave earlier and 'soberer', cause I had to work the next day. That more or less just kinda puts a damper on the whole thing, cause in the back of my mind, I know I have to make sure that I'm not too tired for work the next day...in Hamilton.

Anyways, even with that said, I still love the film festival, and can't wait for next year. Incidentally, if I do get a job somewhere outside of Canada which would hopefully be Chicago or NYC, they still have pretty decent film festivals there, so, that's pretty sweet.
